"So attractive, so powerful, so free from the ruh and nervousness of men of His time or ours and when we read lt with oivn eyes we cannot help but feel that He was much more than w are or can in this life possibly be. Ilia mesrage was spoken with authority. The truth of His words whs echoed In tho tone of Hit voice and the life that thus expressed itself. "He did not hesitate to claim Deity for Himself and it was felt to be true ly thoi who knew Him best. God's voice spoke out of the heavens and gave proof to the Chri.U being His Son. All the needs of man seem to have been and are met in Him. This wan enough In itself to prove Him more than man. How -wonderful was this message of His. So deep, so broad, bo simple. Nothing like it has ever or had even been given. "But all these things being true there is yet another test of His deity and it Is found In the influence His life and message had and has on those who frive their life to Him. It brings conviction that one is sinful and living far T.elow what ho ought to live. It brings conversion and men are turned riht about faco in all their character life that is contrary to His will and they begin to lie the full and natural life that is found in Him. This transformation of character is the greatest miracle of the ages and the greatest

"Will the time ever come when the style of clothing worn by the African women will be the style in civilized countries?. When any people including th Africans have civilization and religion brought to them, the first thing they ask for is clothing. The jppm to realize that it Is not proper to clothe themselves as they have been. "These so-called stylish clothe originate in I'aris. There they art first worn by the lewd women of that city. The latest announcement from Paris style makers is the "stockingless ankle." The women will wear no stockings and split skirts. "These styles are first worn by lewd women at tho race tracks. The smart sets of the principal cities of the world wear them next and finally they are worn by our Christian women. This cannot help but reflect on their characters, for one can usually judge a person by the clothes that am worn. ' "These low neck dresses and split skirts have an evil influence and especially on men. Men have enough trouble in keeping from temptation without introducing these sensuous dresses."

TRUST IN GOD IN TIME OF AFFLICTIONS

Hev. F. K. Dougherty Sunday mornln. at the Grace M. K. church. He

"Tho world is filled with mysteries
which wo cannot understand. God meant that we should not 'understand, them now, but He will reveal them when th proper time comes. There are mysteries in the natural world and peoplo spend much time trying to figure out the cause of great storms, tornadoes and sea disasters. "In the Bible the same thing is true. There are many things we cannot understand, such ns th incarnation, the Trinity, the beginning of a new life. We know they are facts, and tho ony thing we can do is to tr'.t In God. The same is true of the mystery of the future. We can but leave it to God."
That tho outlook for South Bend to
be on the route of the proposed Lake Erie to Lake Michigan canal Is better today than any time in the past was the statement made yesterday by
Hlehard Klbel of the local canal committee. Mr. Elbel returned Saturday
nitfht from a trip to Washington
where he was in conference with In
diana senators and representatives re-
sradrlnj: the question.
According to Mr. Klbel lt seems the
big question now is one of the money. The $25,000 appropriated for the canal from the rivers and harbors fund is not nearly enough, said Mr. Elbel. An additional appropriation of $50,000 will be necessary he said, which was oi.e of the matters discussed with the Washington solons. While in the east Mr. Elbel attended the commencement exercises at National Park seminary where his daughter, Vernice, graduated, Mrs. Elbel who accompanied him will remain another week.
