torcycle rider, was killed Sunday on the Hawthorne race track. Balke was trying out a new machine and. blinded by dust. role into a steam roller at work on the track. His skull was crushed and he died within an hour.

NEW YORK. June S. Joseph Wilson, CT. who said he was the son of a wealthy cotton grower of Memphis. Tenn., was arrested at Hroadway and 31th street Saturday afternoon on the charge of soliciting alms. He wa well dressed and wore a great .slouch hat. Magistrate Marsh, before whom he was arraigned in night court. thought the patrolman had made n. mistake in arresting Mr. "Wilson, but the prisoner admitted his guilt. "When I came here Just a week ago." he sald, "I had $300, hut it is all gone now. I didn't know It cost so much to live at the big hotels here The first thing I knew 1 didn't have a cent. I was begging for money so that I could telegraph home and have some more sent to me." Magistrate Marsh discharged Wilson and advised him to so to the municipal lodging house for the night. He said that he would return to Memphis tomorrow.
