Gilbert, ex-vice governnr general of the Philippine islands, formerly a resident of Fort Wayne, and now of Manila, was the guest of honor at a 7 o'clock dinner given at the Oliver hotel Wednesday evening by John Yeagley, 4 07 Lament Terrace, at whose home Mr. Gilbert has been a guest. Covers were placed for 2.'. The quests were old friends of Mr. Gilbert, with whom he associated before his appointment abroad 12 years ago. He was twice elected to congress from the 12th district, but resigned his seat to accept an appointment as judge advocate general of the Philippine islands. He was promoted by President Roosevelt from that position to the Philippine commission, and later to the ofllce of vice governor general. On Jan. 1st last, ho resigned and formed a law partnership in the Philippines. Since the first of the year Mr. Gilbert, with his wife and daughter, has traveled extensively through Kurope. Asia and the rient. He will leave for Manila July T to take up the practice of law.
