munity. A cooperative creamery and laundry has been built and plans are under way for a cooperative store and rain elevator. The young folks are not talking about goins: to the city. I'ist season we sold $S00 worth of poultry and epgs, and cleared over Sl.ooo on cream and pork. We built the silo, made other improvements and banked $900 toward the new house. I am writing- this in the new house. Our plan is a proven success. In December the cows and poultry netted $ J 7 r and the January figures will go a bove that. I look across the i ich fields, take in the neat fence, tne cows contentedly munching their alfaJfa from the racks in a sunny yard on the south side of the barn, the poultry houses, the orchards and all the things our hard work has won. My eyes strike the road, and my thoui:its travel down it to the depot ,'ind far away to the rolltop desk in the distant city. .Somebody is sitting at it, dreaming, maybe, of the clear skies nnd a bit of land beneath it to call his own. Perhaps he and another Mary are wondering if they dare make the break, The only answer I can give has been given in this story. "With a little capital and the ability to fight, they can win. It is either that or go on with the grind until the dismal end. (THi: END.) OPPONENT!! NEED LS Prejudice is Often the Result of Ignorance, Says Rev. Daniel S. Toy in Address at First Baptist Church. "The people who oppose revivals arc the ones who need them most. They are the very church people themselves." uih was the Billy Hundayficd statement that I'vanirelist Toy gave to his hearers last night at the First Haptist church. The evangelist was speaking on "Hindrances to Revivals." "If th'-re is to be a revival in this community or any other we. will have to clean house," he taid. "The first stone to be removed is prejudice against revivals. And this opposition ((lines not from without the church, but from within. A prejudice against evivals is oftentime the result of ignorance. "What is a revival? It is not the conversion of sinners. That is the result of a revival. A revival is the awakeninir of the people in which there is already life. The people who oppoe- reivals are the people who j need them most. It is a sad thing ! when this prejudice to a revival reI suits in criticism of eorts to save ; people from eternal destruction. Criticism never saved a soul." ; Dr. Toy took his text from John 11: "Take ye away the stone.' He detailed the story ofthe death of Iazarus and told how Christ raised hint from the dead. I'sin the text as an illustration Dr. Toy said: "A man without Christ is ;ts dead as Lazarus. And lie must be alled forth by te Miiif ;o' r that restored the bro!ier l- Mary and Martha, (rod never saves 'anybody without the aid of human instrumeiuality." Continuing tin'4 speaker said: "The .-cond stone to be rolled away is the ;iu nnM-tent life of ;f christian. Worldly . lil '.st i . ns are keeping sinners out : t!ie ki.iu'dom. If j..u fiiul a church th st i f r e fr..m world'incss that is the church Cod will honor." The laiicest attendance of the week was present last niht. QM6S SELL (11 D Change of Front by Bulls and "Down State Speculators" One Factor in Liquidations. Argentine Corn Features. nv joskpii v. piirrciiAiii). CHICAGO. April 17. The chutes of the corn lonpjs were thrown wide open and that prain was allowed to rattle downward in a big way Thursday. Holders were not only willing, but anxious to sell out. One of the factors of the day was the change of front of some of the old time bulls and which included at least a part of the speculative coterie known as the "down-state speculators." There has been little on which to buy corn for some time past and this fact has been set forth by the writer on more occasions than one. While the Argentine corn situation was discussed in a quiet manner today the fact that the estimated shipments out of that country for this week were piaced by Broomhall at 4,230,000 bushels was enough to show the cash handlers of the east, as well as the south that they will not be obliged to come to the western markets for supplies. Last week the actual shipments were only 2,090.000 bushels and for the corresponding week one year ago they were 1,4 88,000 bushels. The south as well as the east refused to take hold of Chicago corn unless satisfactory concessions were made, as they claim that rqentine is supplying their wants and at much lower levels than asked by the west. Shipments from that country are likely to increase in amount and the "Yankee corn will find few friends unless Argentina prices are fully met, if not shaded. To show how the Argentina grain is affecting conditions surrounding the corn market of the United states it is only necessary to refer to the small cash business at Chicago, which is recognized as the leading corn center of the world and where the sales to lay were only 14 5.000 bushels. Price losses here were o-S Ti 1 5S with the Msy future the weakest spot of the list. Thero was heavy liquidation in the wheat market and losses were shown 1 of ?,-rif. lc with the May future under morj pre?sure than the deferred mo'iths. There has been some complaint "f manipulation in May wheat, which is against the market as a whole. From the conditions surrounding wheat today it would he inferred thr.t the timid shorts had cover- ! ed and that new buying power was not in evidence even f r small lots. Northwestern markets were weak. notwithstanding the fact tliat receipts up there were smaller and that there were complaints of dry weather retarding spring seeding. The price of oats failed to show as weak a tendency as the other grains and while the iosses were 1-4 fa-1 -2c j they reacted some from the bottom I prices. There were increased offerings of Canadian oats and the cash ; situation remains heavy in conse quence. Liquidation by longs in hog produets was again the weakening influence for the entire list and prices were sharply lower and the market was active. There whm some reactions fdiWn from the bottom prices of the day, but the situation looked as if a readjustment of values was about due.
