STIES T Students Must Wot Hookey" or Loiter in Halls Under Penalty of Dismissal, Princinal Exnlains. f ( I Truants, loiterers and other dis- ! turbf-rs of school discipline will re- ; cei. fc-u mmary treatment accordino; ; to tho announcement of F. L. Sims, i principal of the High school, at an asj sembly Monday mornink'. Mr. .Sims amplified a list of "cus- ; turns, rub s, regulations and preceidfnts" jirevailimr in tho High school, : w hich have been codilied and placed ', in tho hands of each pupil, besides beinr posted consplcuotisly in the halls. Strict adherence to the rules will be enforced, the principal declared, in ; order to maintain a hisher standard of discipline during the present seme?Apiroximately 1,100 students are I now enrolled in the school, owing to ( ' the mid-semester promotions and one reason for codifying tho rules was to obviate, tho plea of "ignorance of the law" by the errin'pupils. Truancy, according to the code, is voluntary withdrawal from school and tho truant will not be re-admitted except on personal application by the parents. A second truancy is tinal withdrawal from school and the "pupil must abide by his own decision in withdrawing." Pupils tardy for three times without written excuses signed by the parents, will no susponueu irom scnooi mr one week. Pupils may not sign excuse ' for tardiness even with parents' coni sent. 1 The penalty for loitering in halli ways, locker rooms, lunch room or ; auditorium or any place in tho build- ' ing than that where due according to j the student's program card, is immeI diato suspension for one week. Xo person may complain of loss of money or books, clothing or other property who does not avail himself t of tho "protection offered by the steel , lookers provided. The halls must be clear live minutes after recitations are dismissed and fifteen minutes after school is dismissed at noon and in the afternoon. Pupils j mav remain in the building by special j appointment with tea'cWrs after 3:4 3 o'clock but not without such appoint- j mont. The building must be cleared j bv o'clock when the doors wfll be locked. Upon entering the building students will go at once to recitation or study ' rooms to avoid congestion in locker I rooms and hallways and to prevent tardiness and economize study time. ; While most of these rules have been in fnrpf. for some time the principal ! oxplainod that they will he enforced more strictly this semester. Several other clas? room regulations are eluded with the statement that school assume responsibility for safety of the pupils only during time they are in the building. in - the the the ALL READY FOR G. 0. P. GABFEST AT PLYMOUTH All is in readiness, according to County Chairman Klliott, for the hi day at Plymouth, Tuesday, when the republican party ia the Thirteenth district is to meet, elect a successor! to Fred Woodward, for district chair- j man, and resolved to continue the party in existance for at least another campaign. O. Perry Smith of Warsaw, who was Woodward's opponent for the district chairmanship two years ago, w ill bo handed the job this i time on a gold platter, no one cise in the district, due to dilapidated condi i tion of republicanism, seeming to care for it. While Oist. Chairman Woodward is scheduled to preside at the convention, at least temporarily, the "keynote speech" is to bo the handiwork of Atty. A. K. Martin. Martin is said to have been chosen from a standpoint of etliciency, gained as a member of the citizens party "gab trust" during the recent city campaign. He is expected to extend the "come-back" invitation to the bull moosejs so strong as to make it simply irresistable. The delegates chosen at the city caucuses i- riuay nignt, along witn oiners from the county, will leave for i Plymouth over the Vandalia at 1::50 ! Tuesday morning; that is, as many of ; them as make the trip. It is expected ; that the South Bend delegation will ; be joined by at least one from Mlsh- i awaka. An effort is being made to ; take a full delegation from South ! Bend full in the sense of numbers j this for the psychological effect. At 1 Plymouth the delegation will be met i at the depot and escorted to the j court house by a north wind. E LIVER AND BOWELS
