Exf exert of the Art cf Raking as taught bv Mrs. jan ft McKenzie Hill ' Helpful Cake Mallei Hint Always sift flour and K C Baking Towder at least three times. The more sifting, the lighter the cake. Remember that! To cream butter aad sugar quickly, warm the sugar slightly. Beat yolks of eggs with rotary beater. Whip whites of eggs with flat spoon whip. Water makes lighter cakes; milk makes richer cakes. To mix a cake, firt cream butternnd sugar thoroughly, then add yolks, if used. Then 'alternately add moisture nnd flour that has been sifted with baking powder and stir until smooth and glossv, adding egg whites after thoroughly mixing. A U ays use X C Ijki?: Ii dn Biscuit Helps Alwayssift flour and K C Baking Powder at lea.st three times. Have shortening cold and firm. Mix dough as soft as it can be handled. The softer dough goes into the oven, the lighter the biscuit when it comes out. It is cosier for K C Baking Powder to do its work in soft than in sti:T dough. Mix biscuits very b'ttle. Do not knead. TWO EGGS A DAI NEW HEN KECORD Colorado Miner Says It's So ami Lays All tho Rlamo on to Radium Placed in Water. CRE.STONI:. Col.. Jan. 2G. Cyrus 'Whiffle, who has been, prospecting in Paradox valley, claims that he has discovered a, cure for rheumatism, dys pepsia, indigestion and many other diseases. The answer is radio-active eggs. Whiffle came home recently from a prospecting1 trip, bringing with him. ho Fays, a small sack of Carnotite, or radium-bearing ore. Whiffle's children playing with the ore, dumped some of the pieces in the drinking fountain used by the Whiffle hens. As it result, according to Whiffle, the water became strongly radio- active, the hens drank it and their egg production almost doubled. Many of the hens began laying two eggs a day. Tho eggrs. unfortunately, were found to be quite useless for hatching, but Whiffle and his family, since beginning to eat the radio-active eggs, have gained in health and strength. "I can now eat 2 4 big buckwheat cakes, for breakfast." said Whiffle, "without having indigestion. All I have to do is to eat five or six of my radio-active eggs lefore I start in." CONDITIONS HERE ARE BEST IN THE WORLD Creates! Trade Depression of Present Times Is in Kiuojh Says Secy. Garrison. NEW HAVEN. Conn.. Jan. 2C. Business conditions in the United States are better than anywhere else in the world, despite the general depression according to statements made by William C. Redfield. secretary of commerce ,at a luncheon here in his honor. "The greatest trade depression at the present time," said Mr. Redfield, "is in England, Germany, Austria, Brazil, India and the Argentine. Ieave aside the pitiful parables of the prophets for evil, who for political purposes preach national pain and ruin." Mr. Redfield spoke encouragingly of the expansion of foreign trade and also spoke warmly of the "new conscience, " which he declared had been aroused among 11 classes of business men, but especially among the class that has hitherto been referred to as the "predatory rich."
