I Over the Arch of the Setting Sun, . vhich is to surmount the we3tem entrance to the great Court of the Sen and Stars at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, will be placed a majmificcnt sculptural rreup. representing the "Nations of the We3t," which will be a companion to the group representing: the Nations of the East," over the lArch cf the Rising Sun, at the eastern entrance. ! The "Nations of the West,' fs a fcomposition by three noted sculptors, and depicts the treat exploring, colonizing races of the Occident The central feature of the composition is an old fashioned waj?on, drawn by oxen a typical "prairie nehooner," such as the westwardbound pioneers of the last century used for their immigration into the lar West In front of the wacron nr "The Mother of Tomorrow," eymbolizinK the matron of the coming lace, while two boys, "The Hopes of the Futnrr," and a female allegoric figure, "Enterprise" surmount the fwagon. All of these figures are by A. Stirling Caldcr, acting chief of r.'ulpture for the exposition. They are masterpieces, especially "Enterprise," winch is full of life and Tieor, energetic daring and ambition. The wagon and the oxen are by Prederick G. R. Roth, who also designed the pedestrians, representing c German, an Italian, an Alaskan ond an Indian Squaw, vivid type3 of North Americans. , Leo Lcntolli designed the four equestrian figures, which represent the Iatin-American, the Englishman, the Frenchman and the Indian. All of these types have left their L'Tipresa upon America and upon American history. They are leaders In discovery ano In blazing the way through the wilderness and in navigating th3 peas. The Indians were in America first An Italian, Christopher Columbus, from Genoa, with

What Is promised to be a musical treat is scheduled for the Oliver next Monday night with the concert of the Williams' Colored singers, a company of Indies and gentlemen who are just now touring the United States after a successful season in England, France, Germany and other countries. The company is being brought here by Crusade lod?e Knights of Pythian as an attraction to stimulate the movement for the building of a new cattle hall. The proceed? from the venture will be pLtced in the lodge building fund. The Williams' company stands hiph in the lyceum Held and comes recommended by many reliable professional men nfcid laymen. One endorsement that South Rend people know to be sincere is that of Homer Rodeheaver, whose musical knowledge is so well known. Mr. Rodeheaver has heard the Pingers many times and pronounces them the best of their kind in the business. They will sing a varied program here, the kind that will pleae all who hear them. Indications point to a big attendance and a successful event for the lodge.

HELLER BUILDING IS SA FE The committee appointed by Mayor Fred V. Keller to investigate the conditions of the buildings on each side of the collapsed structure at 110-112 South Michigan st. was composed of C. Fassnacht, Henry S. Christman, Geo. W. Freyermuth, William S. Moore and E. VV. Young.

"HAPPY HOOLIGAN." Gils Hill hes made a revival of his first big success "Happy Hooligan", which will be the attraction at the Oliver this evening:. From the outset "Happy" has been a bi hit and when Mr. Hill conceived the idea of placing him on the stage, amusement seekers, who had heard about him, or followed him many adventures in the various newspapers, treated his theatrical debut as an event. Though "Happy" has

grown older and somewhat bolder j since that time (it. is over ten years; since he became an actor) he is still; the same unfortunate man who is ;

always "butting in" and getting Into needless trouble.

a crew of Spaniards and other Europeans, sailed from Palos, Spain, and discovered the western continent for Europe. The Spanish. English, French, Portugeso and others followed and opened up and settled the land. The enlargement of the "Nations of tho West" from the sculptors' models is now in progress. The group is of heroic dimensions, and

on a scale in keeping with the vast Court of the Sun and Stars which it will faco when the exposition palaces are completed. Beneath the group will be the legend by Emerson: "There is a sublime and friendly Destiny bv which the human race is puided the race never dying, the individual never spared to results affecting masses and ages."

AT Tin: OIUMII-XM. Whatever might have been lacking at the Orpheum the first half of the week the "house comes lack doubly strong with several fine features for the last three dayp. The- comedy trained animal performance of Xorris' baboons is the greatest feature of this kind that has ever been seen here. It is so far away from the usual trained animal act that double emphasis should bo made of the fact. Emneror and Empress, tho two intelligent animals arc called and they wear clothes, roller skate, walk en stilts and play little bits of

comedy, usually all alone with tho ( trainer off the stage. Their bride and j groom finish is a FCream and has to be seen to be appreciated. I Dainty little Violet McMillian, 1ut ' about the cutest bit of blonde feminity you eould imagine, sings some new

songs with a pleasing: personality, lots of magnetism and a fine array of nif

ty costumes. Miss McMillian s voice j is not of grand opera quality but she j makes up in captivating spontaneity j what otherwi.e may be lacking. And then there is Delmore and ' Light, two regular boys. They just sing songs and play the piano out in

one but how Delmore can sing mostly his own original songs, too and Light is some manipulator of the

ivories. Tin y score right from the start and take more encores and deservo thpm more, than uny similar act that's played the circuit. Wood brothers do neat ring acrobatics in rjreen trousers and spring a few needless jokes uf the same color while the Mimic Four make a lot of noise nnd a. number of hurried costume changes.

Gordan anj Courtenay Foote have the leading parts in a two reel film, which will be at the American theater today. It Is "The Whimsical Threads of Destiny." Giles Webster tests the character of his two heirs and finds one. the girl, lackln? in many respects, but his nephew proves to be well worth his admiration when he gives up his legacy in order to marry a circus rider whom he truly loves. Webster has had his two heirs told that he was dead,

I though in reality he is very much alive, which he proves when he re

appears and denounces his niece Tor her unworthy conduct, and praises his nephew. A remarkable and interest-inn-ccpnp in this bip drama is the one

in which Kate, the circus rider nearly i loses her life while leaping throuph

America is surely a cosmopolitan nation where a mn Is accepted for his worth, not for his blood or breeding: and so it happened in this in-

l stance, where Miss iiwrenc wins i the man she loves against all race

traditions because he was human and because he was a man. In thb play, written by Walter MacXamara. the accomplished little actress. Miss Law-
