Dainty "Cinderella" at the Orpheum Theater Visits South Bend Stores; Tells Story of Pleasant Day With Merchants

Miss Violet MacMillan, the clever little actress who is creating such a favorable impression at the Orpheum theater this week, was asked to give her opinion of some of the leading stores of South Bend in comparison with the hundreds of others she has visited durling her professional career, and this dainty little lad has consented to tell the readers of The

News-Times the very agreeable surprise this comparison has made. She describes her trop as follows: "My, oh my, what a fine time I had this morning. I visited some of the finest stores I have ever seen in a long time. All the. people I met were so charming that I just enjoyed every minute. "Mr. Williams of the TwrntiethCentury garage called for me at the

Oliver hotel in the famous Overland car, and I started on one of the most

delightful trips it has bee;i my cood fortune to enjoy. The Overland is such an easy ear to ride in. -Do you know, I did not feel a single jar on the entire trip. 1 have had the pleasure of riding In many oar?. th most expensive and beautiful ones and when I found out the selling price of this magnificent car, I simply marveled at it. I really did not believe such a wonderful car could be sold at such a reasonable price. Just think of it. rjZij: "The car is finished in a most beautiful way that makes it look classy. They told me that the equipment specifications had been increased this year. When you stop to consider that this car costs such a small amount, it is as good a bargain in any auto as I have ever seen for the money. Cinderella ConteM at Union Shoe Co. "My first stop was made at the I'nioii Shoe More, on S. Michigan St., where they have my little slipper on exhibition for tli ladies of South

liend to tr3- on. The Union Shoe store folks offer two box seals at the Or pheum theater to each lady over 18 years of age who can put it on, and I do want some South Bend lady to succeed, as it will show that there are Cinderellas here. The slipper was on exhibition on Broadway. New York city, but no lady was able to get it on. T hope South Bend can do something that the people of the metropolis of the United States were unable to do. "I found the Union Shoe store to be a very busy one and from the way they were spoken of I am sure it is one of the most popular ones here in South Benr. Marvellled at Bargains Offered at Heller's Fiiriiitnrt' Store "My home being in Grand Ilapids. Mich., 1 naturally asked to see one of the leading furniture stores, and we were driven to Heller's Furniture Co. and here I found all the high grade Grand Rapids furniture manufacturers represented, and I really found the prices of their furniture extremely reasonable, owing to the fact that he has decided upon having a real bargain sale. libs store was literally covered with dust from the collapsed building next door. Do .you know it was a very disheartening sight to see all these lovely pieces of furniture covered with dust. Nevertheless that dust can be very easily rubbed off and be just like new. 1 Just can't help but respect a man like Mr. Heller for being so cheerful and optimistic in spite of the fact that his big beautiful store is so dusty from that col-

; laosed building.

"Congratulations, Mr. Heller, upon your fine furniture and special compliments upon your extremely optimistic and cheerful natfre. IMoaant Half Hour at I User's Ilowcr Store. "Friends had said if I ever visited South Bend to be sure and see the Beyer llorist shop on Michigan st., so the Overland car was driven there Immediately after I had spoken the wish, I did not find my friends had deceived me. I found mvself in

j one of the loveliest Moral stores you . can imagine. His roses were just oxuV te. and my! tho.se violets were I beautiful. I am going to have my

daily bouquet sent from Beyer's while I am in your city. "Just as I wa.s about to leave this lovely store Mr. Buyers presented me with the most beautiful violets I have ever had the pleasure of receiving. "It was a very pleasant half hour I spent at this place and from the way they were filling orders for their customers proved conclusively that their tlowers are appreciated. Scmpre CJiovinc Favorite Toilet lrcparation. "Before I stop I want to pay that many ladies have asked me by letter and in person what toilet preparation I have found the best to keep one's face in the most perfect condition, and I wish publicly to say that in all my experience I have rever found anything better than Sempre Giovine' (pronounced Sempray Jovenay). It is manufactured by the Marietta Stanley Co. of Grand Rapids, Mich., and I am perfectly safe in saying it never disappoints its users. It does everying the manufacturers claim for it. I

have noticed that all the leading department and drug stores carry it in larpr quantities. you can cret it cosily, 1 am sure. In IiOyt With South Bend. "fn closing I wish to thank the dear people of South Bend for their appreciation of my efforts during my engagement be and especially the way they hae appreciated my new song, 'You've Got Your Mother's Big Blue 1'yes.' To me this is the most beautiful song I have ever used, and it does my heart good to know others think it beautiful, too. I really think it is going to be as popular as 'International Bag.' If the readers of this paper have not as yet heard this wonderful song just get it and I. am sure you will agree with me. All music publishers carry it. I know. "Also let me thank Mr. Murphy of the Orpheum theater for his kindness. He surely must have an extremely popular theater, for there has not been a night but what it has been packed to the doors.

"It H so delight f allv cozy ir.-id- I understand that the tirt 'f next a k is going to be another busy tirv. r Mr. Murphy, ih there is to be at.- t r one of tho famously uood bib?- ' -orpheum theater is s well known f. "Iast of all. let me thank the entire stajre crew of the theater, "Pad" Saville. the stage manager: S-.-k. ." the property man. and the r t "f the men. for the many courtesies extended during the pleasant day I have spent at the Orpheum theater and if courtesy and good-will riv-an business, Mr. Murphy deserves packed houses."

She was interested in the collapsed building next door, but she became wildly enthusiastic over the wonderful display of magnificent Furniture shown her.

"Why it seems just like home"! she exclaimed, "I was fairly raised among furniture displays, but I never saw so many genuine oak pieces before. Oh, it's too bad it is all so dusty. And you are to have a sale next week? How I would love to have my home here and take advantage of those splendid bargains then I'd rub off the dust and have something to be proud of. I don't see how the ladies of South Bend will ever be able to resist such bargains! "WHEN HELLER SAYS IT'S OAK IT'S OAK." MELLEE9

Miss MacMillan says: "Of the thousands of cars I have ridden in, many of them costing much more, none of them excels the wonderful Overland. Its beauty of lines and luxurious upholstering makes auto riding a dream. That, coupled with the service given here makes it an ideal investment."
