City's Executive Passes Away Day Before Expiration of Term Death Due to Heart Trouble.

KLKILYIIT. Ind., Jan. Z. Mayor 'Kills M. Chester, one of Illk hart's most respected citizens, died at his home, 1215 S. .Main St., shortly beforo 4 o'clock Sunday morning, following an attack of heart trouble, superinduced by a nervous breakdown. Had he lived until Monday noon, Mr. Cheater would have completed his term of four years as the city's executive, Krank 1Z. Smith, the mayor's successful rival at the November election, succeeding him at that time. The news of Mr. Chester's demise wh'.ch spread with great rapidity over tha city, brought forth expressions of sorrow even from his most active to lltlcal enemies, who Joined with others In extolling the mayor's virtues. Only the mayor's most Intimate friendg and nearest relatives were aware of the nature of the ailment which resulted In his death. He had b-en ill for nearly two years, but Tather than worry his relatives and friends with his trouble ho had borno his burden with fortitude. Kven unto the end ho was cheerful and joked .with thoso about his bedside. Mr. Chester visited the. cilices in the city "building for the last time last Tuesday. It was then that while probably suffering excruciating pain, he gave the first intimation that he was fatally 111. "Oh, how I wish I could live until my terra expires," Is said to have been his exclamation, which dumfounded his brother city officials and friends who heard it. However, their assurances that ho was alright and would soon be well teemed to arouse the mayor's spirits. On Thursday, New Year's day, Mr. Chester suffered two sinking spells and following the last one, he called )ils eldest son "Willard to his bedside and confided to him that he believed he was righting a losing battle. However, with the suilcit'ii entry of his wife his dt-meanor changed and he jocularly remarked that he had given her a bad scare and laughingly promised that he would not repeat it. He then planned with her for a southern trip to be taken in the near future "for the benefit of both of them." Kllis M. Chester was born In Sufliebl. Conn., July 0. 13T.0, the son of John and Klizabeth Chester, who were Immigrants from Kngland. When a small boy ho entered his father's -igar factory and learned the trade of a cigarmaker, a vocation he followed up to the time of his death, from .uflicM be accompanied his parents to WcsttieM, Mass.. when he and his father also operated a elgar factory. Wilson's party found the ."0mile. ride to and from P.iloxi. the most pleasant they had taken since coming to Pass Christian. It lay along the Mississippi sound, which sparkled with sunshine Sunday. The roads were good, but the cars moved slowly along the beach, and many families ran to their front verandas and waved to the distinguished motorists.
