That South P.cn.I will honrtily cndorso the nation wldo movement inaugurated at Chlrapo fr ;t national "Go to Church Sunday" on IVh. 1, is evident from e:;pr .-sionn Kiven out Friday nlht by various ministers of the city. Although no Invitation has as yet been extended to South Bend churches to join in the ots rv.ince of the day, it Is believed that .such will arrive within a few days. Hey. James 1. Gardiner of St. Pa u 13 Memorial M. E. church stated that he will bring' the matter before the ministerial body at Its session -Monday morning at the Y. M. C A. Ho said h will encourage the project to the fullest and said that he had no doubt but that the movement would bA fully appreciated by all .South Bend pastors and that the congregations would also put a shoulder tc the wheel and push. (Rev. F K. lybugherty of Grace M. K. church voiced the sentiment of most of the. pastors asked when he. f-ald that he would "boost" the movement with all his rnUht. Like Dr. Gardiner ho believes that South Hend ministers and conurbations will all fall in lino and work hard fur a Ms attendance In the churches on the Sunday of Feb. 1, Irtoa a Xpw One. The "Go to Church Sunday" was first proposed by the Chicago Christian Endeavor union and was immediately endorsed by Chicago Catholics, Jews and every denomination of Protestants. A. G. IIITECTCAIj sekvici:. 1. Humility Jlential for Effectual Senior. V,'e are told here to irird ourselves with humilty, in order to bo fitted to serve. Humility is one of tho most important Christian graces; it Ls the contrary spirit of being proud, boastful, or vainglorious either inwardly or outwardly. There is no difficulty" In a true Christian having the sweet spirit of humility when he remembers his littleness and God's infinite greatness. When we think that God is almighty and that we are more specks of power compared to him, that we are beholden absolutely to him. there is but little room for anything resembling a haughty spirit. When tho mothers, or guardians, brought their children to Jesus fr him to bless them, the disciples forbade them, thinking that they and their master were too important to bothered with merely little children; but Jesus rebuked the disciples, for the spirit of ignorance and priile which they displayed, and said. "Suffer the children to come unto me, and forbid them not." When we gird ourselves with the beautiful grace commended In the text we shall not bo too proud to minister to little children, or any other clas.-. H. ycrUv I;wntlal to Dix'iplrship. We need to gird ourselves with humllitv that wo may be fitted to servo. God and our fellow men. Service is not optional with us; it ls not a question of may. but of must. No person can retain the favor and smile of God who .is not er.caced ill doing somo rood work: making troubled hearts triad, looking after the poor, visiting the sick, teaching a Xunday school class, talking to individuals about the salvation of their souls or somo kindred work. In fact Mh obligation to be encaged in work. i-s only equalled by th? Joy of such work wh-n wo are truly living in harmony with God. The disinclination to the self denial implied in nervine others, is a result of some kind of sin

either in the heart or life

led some person to God is perfect bliss. lYido J Iteproved by God. Tho text states, "God resisteth the proud." what a marvel it is tha any tiny creature Iiko a man, or a woman, can be proud! We were born yesterday and die tomorrow; we came into the world without our permission or consent, and go out of it in the wine way. We are dependent upon God for life, and health and all things. The very breath we draw, and every heart beat upon which we depend for the continuance of-our life, is under tho exclusivo control of God; what therefore have we to be proud of? It is no wonder 'hat God resisteth the proud by loving robukes in order to prevent those who are thus vain from conntiuing i the commission of the mortal sir of pride. God is angry with the proud and puts leanness in their soul. They are blind to spiritual truth and strangers to the holy emotions which flood the souls of tho humble and the Christlike. When a 'ofesscd Christian becomes inoculated with the virus of pride his spiritual nature is poisoned and all growth in Christian grace is stopped, lie may hold to his church relationship, and his profession of faith, but has lost the fullness and the power of the pospel. Remember beloved th?.t pride is not a venial, hut a mortal sin. I. Humility Is Approved by God. Head Christ's sermon on the mount and you will see how all the beatitudes hinge upon, or are related to the grace of humility. Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of God." He also said, "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth." This grace is at the root of Christian character and comfort, and is the chief spiritual quality which produces results in Christian work, and it also brings down upon us the grace and favor of the Heavenly Father. God gives the graces of love, joy, and courage to the humble, lie gives spiritual power to those only, who depend wholly upon him and who take no stock in, or place no dependence upon, their own strength, or wordly wisdom. God fellowships with the humble and spurns the proud. Those of a meek and a quiet spirit, trusting fully in God. devoting themselves to Christian work, are the con panions of the saints of the earth, and the friends of Jehovah. (Copyright. 101 by F. S.
