The story of "The Quaker Girl", which John B. Slocum sends to the Oliver next Saturday matinee and night, Nov. 29, is built around the experience of a Quaker girl in Paris, where she goes after being cast off by her own people. An exiled Bonapartist princess ;s attracted by the girl's beauty and helps her to secure a position as a model in Madame Blum's dressmaking salon In Paris. There she learns the art of wearing beautiful gowns that increase one's natural loveliness and when she meets Tony Shute (Victor Moiley) he establishes himself as her instructor in the arts of dancing and love-making. In the dressmaking salon in the second act there is a gorgeous dress display which is as good as a trip to Paris for the advance ideas it gives of current and coming styles in feminine attire. In the last act, also, there are many beautiful gowns, for the scene depicts a fancy ball and the ppectncle is almost beyond description.

SOUTH POLK PICTURES. The south pole with its desolate tracts of ice and snow and Capt. Amundsen's tent, living the Norwegian Hug, just as Capt. Bobert Falcon Scott found it, all being disclosed to view at the Oliver theater twice daily today and Friday. A remarkable series of pictures, which were taken by Herbert G. Pontlng, the oflicial photographer of the Scott expe'dition, tells the story of this greatest adventure of modern times almost from the time when Capt. Scott was compelled to choose 50 companions out of over 10,000 volunteers, down to the moment when fie. Dr. Wilson, Lieut. Bowers, Capt. Oates and Petty Officer Bvans waved a smiling farewell to the last four of his supporting party only 12 degrees from the south pole. The pictures prove clearly as Capt. Scott himself declared that this was no mere dash to the pole but a carefully planned, gigantic scientilic expedition. All the interesting details are explained by a lecturer.

A city-wide movement to raise $50,000 by Dec. 15 for the construction of a new charity hospital to be managed in connection with the present Upworth hospital, was launched Wednesday morning under the direction of Miss Anna B. Coushaine with headquarters at the Y. M. C. A. building.
With an organization of 300 workers of men and women it is hoped that enough will be raised to equip and construct an additional building to be used for charity purposes. L. I'. Hardy has been made general chairman of the men's organization which consists of 200. Twenty teams of ten men each are being arranged on the men's side under his direction, while ten teams of ten women each is being arranged by Mrs. C. A. Carlisle, who will be chairman of the woman's organiaztion. The organization. It Is hoped, will be completed and the money raised in three weeks. For the Immediate needs of the city to meet charity purposes a part of the present Kpworth hospital will be divided off in a special ward for charity purposes. Special attention will be given to a department for children and for the treatment of orthapedic cases. An executive committee will be made up of 2r men consisting of physicians and business men. A banquet will be served at the Oliver hotel for
the members at the close of the J work.
AT THE OltPIlICUM. For the benefit of the holiday crowds a special matinee will be piven Thursday at 4 o'clock, at the Orpheum in addition to the three other regular performances. Good comedy and lots of it, tuneful musical numbers and novel vaudeville specialties will be the features of an extra good bill that had been booked for the last half of the week. Itlce and Cady, experienced German comedians of the old school, but with a new line of patter and songs will make merry with their lively repertoire of songs and nonsense. Uice and 'Cady begin where Weber and Fields left off and as they know how to sing funny songs their act Is always a sure fire hit. Sharing honors with the human performers are Savoy's acrobatic bull terriers. This act was the headline feature of the recently opened Klkhart Orpheum and those who saw the bill speak in highest praise of their work. They do not , do the ordinary dog tricks but are genuine acrobats performing with intelligence and skill and finish with a football game in which the front rows of the audience always gladly participate.
A new and Interesting comedy sketch, "A Lesson Reform", will be presented by Florence Modeha and company, which has received excellent notices elsewhere. The well known black face comedian, Arthur Higby, will present his new monologue, with songs, and the three roller skating experts, led by Grace Ayer, will round out a pleasing holiday bill.
