Evening
Hat with
the "L-Through" Brim That Has Captivated Paris.
By Lady Duff-Gordon. 0
ND what are tno latest hats? What is Paris iavoring Just at this moment? A wisp of tulle and all the paradise feathers yoa can
carry! The Look-Through, or X Kay, hats ere the very latest thing, and I am sending you several of those that I consider the est. In one of these you will Immediately notice, I am sure, not only the wonderful display of paradise, but the very odd and original manner In which the pretty wearer has arranged her pearls. Of course you have not forgotten my warning of a few weeks ago that pearls ore the only Jewels a woman can wear In the daytime, and that bo long aa a woman wears a pearl necklace she is well dressed, tut she must not wear them Jn the conventional manner. No matter how she wears them, she must never put therm around her neck in the way they are supposed to he. This Is emphatic. This little beauty has heeded my words, and has her pearls wound round her hat and caught up vnder her chin in a most piquant fashion. The hat Itself ia merely a turban of , tulle built on a wire frame, and of course la perfectly transparent. The tulle and the paradise are black. Some of the Look-Through hats have no crowns. The top of the head takes the place of a tulle crown, and when this is ttell dressed tho effect is very good Indeed. One of the most curious hats that I havo ceon for a long time is tho second model. It ia a hat within a hat. Dut It is all of tulle. The inner hat is of silvery tullo or tn aline, and the outer hat is a series of scant frills of black mallno. The ospreys et the back are black. In this case the debutante wearer has her pearl necklaco arranged la the conventional manner, because she is a debuUnte. One of the hats shown Is of the crownless kind. The wide cr rather deep brim Is merely fold on fold of the tulle, edged at top and bottom with a frill of the same. This hat is created in a brilliant cerise. The broad paradise is black. Really It Is absolutely necessary thU year that these tulle hatt have some black In their composition. This is a very girlish model, and the fichu worn adds to the girlish effect. I particularly like the model with the transparent brim, that Is nothing more tor less than a wide frill or ruffle of black rnaline. The crown in this case 13 light bluo satin, for this is in reality a dress hat. There la nothing lovelier nor mora becoming fcr the face than these frills of

The "Crownless" Hat of

the malice that finish nine out of ten hats this season. A distinctly different but a very smart hat is the model with the foundation for the brim of tine straw. The crown is rose satin, the brim is black and the frills of tho maline are rose colored. Of course tho ospreys are black. While this hat is one of my favorites, I still find it difficult to say which of these five I like tho best. Dut enough cf hats. There are always so many other things to write about. Really I never have space enough to tell you all I want. Just lately I have become filled with the thought that fashion is really completely inconsequent, not to say unreasonable. In some of her schemes. Dut then, of course, she would not be femlnlno or fascinating

The "Hat-with-the-Necklace." Created in Black Maline and Paradise,
cither If her moods and her modes were always well regulated and reasonable. And so I, for one. am not in the least Inclined to grumble at her on this account; only 1 cant help being somewhat amused can you? at the trouble she b taking just now to provide dainty and decorative coverings for necks, which It has been her chief object in life to free from covering and bondage of any and all kinds! Of
course, hewever, the new neck ruffle of tulle or feathers or both combined cannot, as being immediately detachable and adjustable, come under the same heading and disadvantage as the tight-fitting neckband. But, all the same. It has something of the same unbecoming effect, if Its wearer be at all Inclined to fulness of face or neck and so I would warn you to exercise a certain amount of dljretioa in Its iuioatiAA.
