From the N. York Comercial Advertiser Curious Phenomenon.- A spot of
ground -nearly an acre in extent, in the neighbourhood of Hudson, lately
sunk precipitately down, leaving a
perpendicular bank where it had bro-
ken oil, about 18 or CO feet high. This had the effect of stopping up
the channel in thc Claverack, oy which the stream was forced back, till its banks could confine it no long-

cent grounds. Ihit the most, lemarkable circumstance attending this
movement of the earth is, that the entire bed of the creek, for about 100 yards in length, had been raised up to the surface of thc wafer, aid was so dry and firm that it could bo

phenomenon; but after forming a variety of theories, none of them appears to have been adopted as tho
correct one.
Murder. A horrible murder, we have been told , was perpetrated in
the neighborhood of Williamsport,
Washington county. Pa. last week. A father, who had for some time before, entertained a feeling of resentment towards his son, deliberately shot him dead. The old man, we understand, parted with his wife, and she was harbored and protected by the son. And this it is alledged, caused him to commit the iiorrit! crime.
