New -York, June 27. From Eng!a?id. By the ship Robert Fulton, lloldridge. master, arrived yesterday from Liverpool, we have received our regular tiles of .Liverpool and London papers, tht former to 17th, and the latter to the 15th May, and Lloyd's and Lon

a strict examination we do not

iind that the papers received con-

ot famine.

At a meeting held in Liverpool.

it was stated that the distress was

districts to the counties of Limer

ick, Cork, Galway, the western parts of Clare, and some other places in the srvjthand southwestern parts of the island. It originated from the potatoes, the usual food of the Irish peasantry, having been unfortunately destroyed by the heavy rains and great floods which had inundated those districts of the island a few months ago. It is a circumstance known, that in Ireland the potatoes are not taken from the ground and stored, but that they are suflered to remain in the earth until they are wanted for the use of the inhabitants. It was impossible for words to convey an adequate idea of the extent and magnitude of their sufferings. To such a state of wretchedness had the unfortunate peasantry been reduced, that in some districts thcyhad even tirn the lark from the trees and

raised the potutoe seed so:cn fur the next season's supply fir sustenance. In some places they had prolonged a miserable cxistancc hv feeding on the carcacs of dead animals. la the neighborhood ofTralce, some miserable wretches had eaten the carcases oi
