YOUTH LOSES LIFE BY ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING.
Emmet Taylor Shot by Brother Who Was Unloading a Pump Gun In House in Sharon Neighborhood. A very distressing accident occurred on the Daley farm in the old Sharon neighborhood in the southeast corner of Marion township at about 5 o’clock Wednesday evening, which resulted in the death of Emmet Taylor, a 12 year old hoy. Mrs. Taylor, mother of Emmet, is a sister of George and James Kennedy, and the wife of William Taylor, who works away from home. Wednesday he returned to see his children and brought them a number of ' Christmas presents, among other things a single barrel shot gun, known as a pump gun. The boys were demonstrating it in the house, and Vernon, about 14 years of age, had loaded the magazine and was unloading it when it was discharged and the Shot entered the left side of his younger brother, Emmet, just above the hip, tearing the muscles of the stomach away and completely disembowelirig him. Dr. Besser, of Reming-i ton, was summoned and after he ar-| rived there he called two Rensselaer doctors to his assistance. Owing to the fact that there is so much snow on the ground the use of automobiles is impossible and it was almost four hours after the accident before operating was begun. A section of the bowel had been shot away and after the bowel had been re-sectioned and the other injuries treated the stomach was closed up and there might have been a chance for the had it not been for the long exposure following the accident. The patient was very weak, however, and death occurred at about 1 o’clock.
Coroner Wright was notified and went to the scene of the accident this morning and after a careful %investigation pronounced death due to accident. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 11 o’clock at the house, and burial will be made at the Egypt cemetery. Mrs. Taylor, mother of the deceased, is a sister of Mrs. Chas. Mustard, of Rensselaer, and is the mother of several children, the boy who was killed being the next to youngest. The father has lived apart from the mother for the past five years.
