What You Get for a Dollar at .Delphi. Delphi has a “common battery” or “central energy” telephone system, with automatic-ringing phones. The rates ’lre; SI.OO for residences, and $2.00 for business houses. *| The plant is owned by Earl Walker and other members ot the Walker family. They invested $6,000 in it in 1896. Today the plant is worth about $25,000, and the increase has all come out of the earnings of the business, no new capital having been invested. When the plant was rebuilt, some money was borrowed, but this has been paid off from the earnings of the business. In addition to this, the officers have all drawn their salaries, and within the thirteen years three 5 per cent dividends have been declared. The toll rates to all but two points in Carroll county are 10 cents. At two points the toll rates are 15 cents. Mr.-Walker says that the expense of operating and keeping the “common battery” system in repair is less than it was with the old system. Selah.
