SPIRIT OF PROGRESS IN COMMERCIAL CLUB.
Meeting Wednesday Night Attended By Good Sized Number and Hustle Campaign Started. Do you belong to the Commercial Club? If not, why not? Some member of the organization will ask this of you before lang. Steps were taken Wednesday evening to boost the membership to 200, and every member was made a committee to hustle for new members. The by laws were amended to provide that the annual dues be $2 instead of 50 cents',' and members present started the ball rolling by paying their 1910 dues. A list of the members up to Wednesday night is published below. The committee that had been appointed to see about renting quarters for the club was not ready to make a complete report. The rooms over Roth Bros, meat market are still being considered. It is desired to ,get adequate heated quarters, furnish them nicely and have them constantly open for the members and/their out-of-town visitors. Every man in Jasper county is eligible to membership in the club, whether or not he was a purchaser in the lot sale. The cost of membership is $1 and the annual dues $2. President D. M. Worland offered a box of good cigars to the member who would bring in the most new members within the next month and George Fate also made a similar offer. Membership cards are to be printed and every member is to hustle for new ones.
The finance committee being so occupied with private business that they could not audit the books of the secretary and treasurer, a committee was appointed for that purpose, consisting of C. G. Spitler, Geo. H. Healey and A. G. Catt. They are to report at the next meeting of the fclub„ which will be on special call of the president. The natter of the kitchen cabinet proposition was discussed informally, and most members regard it as a very good proposition. The man at the head of the factory has a local endorsement that is very high. All progressive citizens should get into the club and help boom it along. Farmers as well as town people dre needed. None should delay but get in while the boom is on. The club is in good hands and the directors are looking out for everything that will be for the welfare not only of Rensselaer but of the country roundabout. The social features of the club will be worth all the cost. The present members, part of whom have not paid the dues for the succeeding year, are: A. Leopold J. J.' Montgomery W. O.
