Stores to Close Early Except on Saturday Nights.

The oft talked of early closing of the stores in Rensselaer is to become a fact, and beginning "With January 1, 1910, almost every merchant has signed an agreement to close their doors at 6 o’clock except on Saturday night. The agreement is signed up to bind the merchant for a limited period and any merchant desiring to withdraw during the life of the agreement can do so by giving two months’ notice to the other merchants. A list of the merchants who have signed the agreement will be published in a succeeding issue. It is probable that during the summer months arrangements will be made to keep open one other night of the week, possibly band concert night. Merchants and clerks are rejoiced at 4he decision so generally entered into, and the stores will doubtless be able to do as much business in the shorter hours than they previously were in the almost endless days. It is a progressive movement and deserves encouragement.
