Indiana Is Ninety-Three Years Of Age and Feeling Fine.
Indiana is celebrating its 93rd birthday anniversary today. On Dec. 11,1816, the territory was admitted to the Union. There are no plans for a general celebration, although those who are informed on Indiana history do not forget the date of the state’s birth. Robert J. Aley, state superintendent of public instruction, said that so far as he knows no special entertainment has been planned in any of the schools. Governor Marshall said Thursday night that he will recommend in his next message to the legislature the appropriation of funds for a fitting celebration to commemorate the 100th birthday anniversary in 1916. , The first session of the Indiana Legislature opened at Corydon on Nov. 4, 1816, although the formal act of Congress approving the constitution was not recorded until the following December.
