Brenner, landlord of the Makeever hotel, at Rensselaer, is the victim of a unique bunco game. *One day recently a stranger presented himself at the hotel and representing himself as a government inspector of gold coins, asked “Jink” if he had any gold on hand, saying that a gang of criminals in northern Indiana had been taking out the gold from the inside of the coin and filling the shell with lead, and that he was hunting the criminals and > also redeeming what “fixed” coins he found. “Jink 1 ’ handed him a small bag of gold and the fellow carefully inspected each and handing them back said they were all O. K. and made«his departure. “Jink” didn’t suspicion anything until some time later and then upon counting his money found that he was $lO short.
