Splendidly Qualified Candidate for United States Pension Agent
James H. Mcßeth, of Monticello, a private soldier during the civil war, and a man vfcho has made his influence felt in the business and political life of his home city and county, is a candidate for appointment to of- . flee of United States pension agent at Indianapolis.. He is here today receiving some indorsements from men who have known him for many years and it is safe to say that more freehearted aid was never granted an aspirant for office in this part of Indiana. Mr. Mcßeth has much to recommend him. He was a private soldier of the highest type and after coming out of the war he set about to the duties of civil life and has measured up to the highest estimate of citizenship. He has been a faithfuj member ,of the Grand Army of the Republic and has aided many a worthy comrade ,In securing his pension rights. He had* extensive business experience and has been an insurance adjuster, a position that requires the most marked- ability. He representedWhite and Pulaski counties in the state legislature one term, being elected as a republican in a strong democratic- district. His service in the legislature was eminently satisfactory to his constituents. Mr. Mcßeth has always been a y staunch Republican. Not so much a partisan as a man who believed in the party and worked with it and for it for the welfare of country at large. This has given hinS a standing that is the result of surrounding him with the endorsements of republicans all over the 10th district and practically all over northern Indiana. He is the only candidate for the office in the 10th district, where the republican party was able to elect a congressman while every other district in Indiana elected a democrat. This should help to secure his appointment, as the strength of this district deserves for it some of the appointive emoluments. The recommendation of James M. Mcßeth by Senator Albert J. Beveridge will be greatly appreciated throughout this district and we believe he will capably All the office and that his appointment will revert credit on the Senator for his selection.'''
