W. N. PENCE CLOSES LARGEST STOCK DEAL.
Former Jasper County Man Buys 40,000 Head of Steers In Mexico From Hon tins Terrazes. Midland, Tex., Live Stock Reporter. Oqt here-jn the west where it is big and roomy,* where nobody or anything is ever crowded, we frequently engage in little, unnoticed transactions which would create furors, of excited interest a few hundred miles back east. However, we sometimes get our bumps out here, and it was only a few days ago that our townsman, W. N. Pence, was guilty of shaking up our commercial ideas right considerable. For some time Mr. Pence has been in Old Mexico, and it was no longer than last week that he closed the deal he had been engineering, and which involves the possession of from thirtyfive to forty thousand three and four-year-old steers. He bought them of Don Lius Terrazes, the Mexican cattle king, and the delivery will be made in the early part of the coming sprifig. We could not learn the money consideration of this deal, but, unquestionably, it is one of the most gigantic cattle deals this country has ever known. Added to this, Mr. Pence has taken options on all the Terrazes one and two-year-old steers, which will aggregate many thousand head, and will take them or not, as he sees fit., This practically closes all the steer trade in the northern part of Old Mexico, and .all of these vast herds will be brought over into the states, and located on pastures, nlostly in the great northwest. We congratulate Mr. Pence most heartily upon acquiring this princely possession, and hope the vast fortune spent thus yvill be safe and handsomely increased.
