Miss Edna Thompson, daughter of Judge and Mrs. S. P. Thompson, went to Chicago this morning. Her marriage to H. R. Kurrie, assistant general solicitor of the Monon railroad, is to take place next Sunday, Dec. sth. Chas. Hughes and George Loomis left this morning for their home near Frankfort, S. Dak., after a visit with the former’s father, Ephraim Hughes, east of town. Charley has been in the northwest three years and Is well pleased with the country. "" ■ - Perry Horton was host Tuesday evening at an oyster supper given at bis restaurant to Mayor Ellis, George Fate, Vern Nowels, Marshal Parks, Nightwatch Thomas, Auctioneers Phillips and Harmon, Photographer Parker, the publishers of the Republican and all of those who assisted at the opera house during his recent piano performance. A fine spread was prepared by Mrs. Horton, and Misses Harriet Lander and Hazel Warner waited on the tables. Several toasts were offered in which the accomplishment of the bost was praised and the occasion closed with several piano selections by the host. Elizur Sage was the defendant in a suit tried yesterday and in which Oscar Brown was the plaintiff. The amount at stake was only sls, the service fee of a horse. Brown had offered the mare for sale at his .public sale last December,'offering the statement that she was bred to the Sage horse with service paid. Bage bought some hay and in settling for it deducted the sls for service. The horse was not sold bnt was bid in by Brown’s brother. No colt was born and Brown demanded the return of the service. Brown was given a judgment in the justice’s court and Sage appealed and Judge Hanley gave instructions to the jury that favored Brown, but the jury after being out about all night brought In a verdict In favor of Sage. •e* year feds SOIs at The BepubUoea.
