J. J. Lawler Increases His Jasper County Land Purchases.
J. J. Lawler, the Chicago stock yards man who had extensive holding in Jasper county for some years and who spends much of his time in Rensselaer, has purchased the Dr. Hartsell farm of 236 acres and also the Joseph Borntrager farm of 146 acres. For the former he paid $43 an acre. On the first appraisement of this land it was placed at- 958 an acre but no buyer could be found at that figure. On the second appraisement the- land was placed at 940 an acre and Philip Blue, the administrator, sold the farm to Mr. Lawler for 93 an acre more than the appraised valuation. , . • For the Borntrager farm Mr. Lawler paid 960 an. acre. Joe is not certain whether he will buy soon or not but he probably has his weather eye out for a bargain, although Mr. Lawler would like to keep him on his farm. Mr. Lawler now owns about 1,500 acres all adjoining, he having purchased the Monnett land several months ago.
