P. Honan, Mrs. J. M. 'Vyasson and Mrs. A. J. Bellows were appointed a committee to look after the stamp sale and encourage the purchase of the stamps. To this end they have been placed on sale at the three drug' stores, and Mrs. Honan has the girls of her Sunday school class also selling them. The stamps are for sealing purposes and are placed on the backs of letters, on packages, etc. They sell for 1 cent each. While this statement may seem an alarming one and be doubted by many, it is nevertheless a fact as shown by statistics of the state board of health. Under Dr. Hurty, secretary of the state board of health, a vigorous campaign has been begun against the ravages of this disease in different ways. Health authorities of late years have come to the decision that in most all cases tuberculosis is contracted and not inherited and are now working on that theory. Many stringent laws have been passed looking to the remedy of the spread of this great life destroyer, but many others are needed yet. One of the most common means of the transmission of tuberculosis is through meat and milk and when it is known that more than two per cent of the stock killed for eating purposes is found, where there is government inspectors, to be infested with tuberculosis there is no question but, what the rate will run much higher where there is no inspector.
