TUESDAY. Warren Washburn, of Goodland, was here a short tirpe yesterday. Joe Putts made a business trip to Chicago today. 0. E. Brown yesterday accompanied his brother-in-law to Frankfort for a short visit. J. J. Montgomery made a business trip to Lafayette yesterday, and to Wolcott today. Miss Nellie Lucy returned to heV home- in Monticello yesterday, after a short visit here. Airs. Ed Laws yesterday returned to Crown Point, after a short visit here with her son, Dr. H. J. Laws, and family. More rain and the Weatherman promises a continuation, possibly ending up with a slushy snow storm and some high winds by Wednesday night. Children Cry FOR FLETCHER’S C ASTO R I A Lawrence Minster, a St. Joe student, left for his home this morning, on account of trouble with his eyes. He expects to return within a week or thereabouts. , Airs. J. C. Gwin went to Alonticello yesterday for a short visit with her daughter, Mrs. G. H. Thomas, and to take her little grandson, Burford Thomas home, after a visit here. Airs. G. R. Hart, of Olney, 111., who had been visiting her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Bremjer, here and other relatives at Mt. Ayr, .went to Goodland yesterday for a short visit prior to Teturning to her home. Alichael Orr and wife, Mr. Jefferson Belles and Miss Louise Lanham, of Sheridan, and Mrs. Grace Mills, of Flora, returned home yesterday. They had come here to attend-the funeral of Mrs. Earl Barkley to whom most were related. Chas. Rowen, of Parr, went to Indianapolis yesterday to represent the L O. O. F. lodge of that place at the grind lodge meeting. Mrs. Rowen accompanied him, going on to Edinberg to visit her brother, Anson Chupp, and family. Chas. E. Smith, a merchant and undertaker at Chalmers, boarded the milk train at that place for Chicago this morning, and upon reaching Rensselaer was handed a telegram recalling him to his home on account of the serious sickness of Mrs. A. D. Raub. Quarterly meeting Sunday at the Methodist church. The district superintendent, Dr. A. T. Briggs, will preach Saturday night and conduct quarterly conference and Sunday administer the Holy Communion. The pastor will preach Sunday night at seven p. m. You are invited to all these services. C. B. Steward, Chas. Platt and Clint Brown went to Indianapolis this morning to attend the Grand Encampment of the I. 0. O. F. The two latter are representing the subordinate lodge here. Chas. Simpson will go to Indianapolis tomorrow to represent the Rensselaer lodge at the grand lodge.

Editor John Bowie and Mr. Myers, of- Wheatfield, wore Knox business visitors Tuesday. Mr. Bowie publishes two pap“ rs > one at Wheatfield and one at Roselawn. On account of his name, people who do not know Editor Bowie personally .fear him very much. But he is as harmless as a honeyeuckle and as serene as a Alay morning.— Knox Republican. D. B. Nowels arrived here this morning from Lamar, Colo., having come over the Wabash via Lafayette. Airs. Nowels preceded him here about two weeks. Riley Nowels and Wife are expected home tomorrow from their visit with their several daughters at several places* Air. Nowels came to visit his aged father, “Uncle” David Nowels, who seems in about his usual health. Auburn Nowels, the only child of Air. and Airs. D. B. Nowels, is now a full partner with his father in the ranching business and his father deeded him an undivided half interest in 520 acres of good land only about 2% miles from Lamar. Auburn makes his home on the farm and superintends the stock business which consists largely of hog raising. Air. Nowels believes that irrigated land offers a fine opportunity for successful investment. He raised 50 bushels of wheat to the acre this year, which is an impossible feat almost on natural watered soil. Air. Nowels and wife expect to remain here for about two weeks. ' WEDNESDAY. Attorney E, P. Honan was in Hammond on legal business today. Mrs. Carrie Brenner went to Mt. Ayr today for a visit of a few days. A son was born yesterday morning to Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Sands. Peter Van Leer went to Brook today, where he has a job of plastering to do. Mrs. John Trainar and Miss Maud Adams, of Monon, are spending today with Mrs. Chas. Rishling. * Mrs. Kenneth Rhoades, of Gary, came this -morning to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Parkinson. Will Warring and wife, of Logansport, are visiting their brother-in-law, W. S. Sylvester Gray and wife went to Goodland this afternoon to visit his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Gray, for about a week. She is 79 years of age. Mrs. S. J. Sigler went to Mt. Ayr this morning, where she will visit for a few days before returning to Chicago.
