Soldier Soon To Be Retired Visits Rensselaer on Furlough.
J. M. Sauser, a commissary sergeant in the United States army, arrived here today and will be here for the next three months, having secured a furlough for that length of time. Sergeant Sauser is related to the Goetz family of Newton township and has made a number of acquaintances in Rensselaer by reason of a previous visit or two here. In fact, he has come to regard Rensselaer as his home and after his retirement frqtin the army he will reside in the property he bought some time ago of George R. Smith, just southwest of the ball park. Sergeant Sauser will be. retired •about the first of next March, having to his credit thirty years of service. He is still a comparatively young man, a part of his thirty years credit having been secured by foreign service for which double credit is given. He Will spend his furlough making some repairs to his property preparatory to occupying it upon his retirement, and will return at its expiration to Fort Missoula, Mont., and be required to spend about three weeks there. Mr. Sauser has been a> faithful enlisted soldier and has acquired one of the highest non-commissioned ranks in the service, and his retired pay for the balance of his life will be about $67 per month. For some time Sergeant Sauser was stationed at Fort Washakie, Wyo., but he was transferred a few months ago to Fort Missoula, Mont. He left there about two weeks ago and stopped off at Elbow Lake, Minn., to visit a sister. He is a single man but it is believed that he will not long remain in that state, for his preparations indicate that there will be a Mrs. Sauser as commissary sergeant of his home and commander of the domicile that he has provided and is here now to put in first-class shape for his occupancy.
