ELLISON CONDRA NO LONGER A LAFAYETTE POLICEMAN.
Former Rensselaer Boy Let Out for No Better Reasons Than the Fact That He Is a Republican. Many Rensselaer people will remember Ellison Condra, who was related to the Ramey families and was raised in Rensselaer. He has resided in Lafayette for several years and some two or three years ago he was made a member of the police force of that city. Ellison was a republican and during the recent city campaign at Lafayette there was talk of his discharge from the ferce by Mayor Durgan because it was told that he proposed to vote for the republican candidate. The mayor was informed by his friends, however, that Condra’s discharge before the election would be bad politics-, however, and he was retained until Monday night of this week when without warning be was dropped, with the statement that the department found it necessary to reduce the force in order to economize. There was no charge whatever against Condra and he is said to have made an excellent officer. The Lafayette Journal states that Mike Mackey, a former saloon keeper, who was very active for Durgan during the campaign is to be appointed on the force in Condra’s place.
