TWO VENERABLE OLD MEN LAID TO REST FRIDAY.
W. S. i Grant and Harvey Phillips, Both Past Four Score Hark, Burled Same Day.. Two grand old men', both pioneers of Jasper county, and both of whom were men of thorough honesty and clean lives, and whose long residence in Jasper county endeared them to all with whom they were acquainted, were laid to rest last Friday. “Uncle” Stott Grant was a jovial spirit and a familiar character on our streets until a few months ago when he was taken down with a cancer and his life gradually wore away. “Uncle” Harvey Phillips was in the best of healthxand bid fair to live ta near the century mark, when the accident occurred that struck him down. The funeral of Mr. Phillips was held this Friday morning at the Christian church and burial was made in Weston cemetery. That of Mr. Grant is being held at the late residence this afternoon, and burial will also be in Weston cemetery. Goodly numbers of people attended the funerals and thus paid their last respects to two men of noble qualities, who had been granted long lives in order that they might cast a good influence over the people of their communities. Their lives will long be remembered and revered and profitably patterned after.
