Lafayette Fire Threatened Lahr Hotel and Kept Guests Up.

Guests at the Lahr House at Lafayette did not retire very early Tuesday night. At about 7 o’clock a fire broke out in Duffy’s candy store in the Milwaukee block, and before discovered had gained considerable headway. Firemen found it hard to control and the Jackson Club, Hotel Lahr and the Masonic Temple were all endangered. Guests at the hotel packed their possessions ready to move out at a moment’s warning but the fire was finally got under control but not until it had gutted the candy factory and destroyed all of the Christmas stock, entailing a loss estimated at $20,000.
