Chas. W. Porter, Former Citizen of Rensselaer, Dies in California.
A copy of the Reedley, Cal., Ledger of Nov. 3d, has reached our table, and an article relates the death of Chas. Wilson Porter, who was a son of* “Doc” Porter, once a well known citizen who lived Just west of town, south of the river. Charley gradual#! from the Rensselaer high school in. 1887, the other members of the class being Caylord H. Chilcote, Sarah Chilcote (Sigler), Frances McEwen (Bostwick), Kate Green (Yeoman) also deceased, George C, Bruce, Birtie Duvall (Cornell) and Samuel E. snarling. . After his graduation Charley taught one or two terms of school in this county and then went to Illinois where he resided until he was married on August 1, 1898, to Miss Laura Green. Two children were born to their union, only one of which, a little daughter, survives. Mr. Porter moved to California, locating near Reedley, four years ago. The article does not state the cause of his death but_ mentions that death came after a prolonged illness on October 29th, deceased being 43 years of age. All the brothers and sisters now reside in California, viz: Isaac W„ William F. and Robert M., and one sister, Mrs. W. O. (Mae) Nelson. His funeral was conducted by the Odd Fellows, of which he. had long been a member.
