Ray Hopkins Contributes to the Defeat of Purdue Saturday.
The surprise in state football contests Saturday was the defeat of Purdue by Wabash.' The final score was Wabash 18; Pqrdue 17. Wabash secured 16 of Its points in the first half, and made a safety in the second half. Ray Hopkins, who was captain of the Rensselaer team in 1907, played a star game. He blocked a punt in the first half and catching the ball ran 80 yards for a touchdown. Several Purdue players started out in pursuit but “Fat” never went so fast before in his life and all of bis opponents fell by the wayside, and Fat fell in an exhausted heap as he crossed the goal line. It was the first touchdown he ever made in a big game of college football, and was the most brilliant feature of the game.
Chas. Passon, better known here as “Tod," came from Chicago Heights Saturday, bringing his wife and baby. He returned to Chicago Heights Sunday afternoon, where he clerks in a grocery store, and Mrs. Passon will remain here for about two weeks. Tod had not been here before for five years. „ , —* ... 1 A little son of Barney Minebrook, south of town, fell Sunday while driving some hogs and dislocated his left thumb.
