Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 41, Number 119, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 9 November 1909 — Louie Genires Did Not Like To Pay His Taxes, But He Did. [ARTICLE]

Louie Genires Did Not Like To Pay His Taxes, But He Did.

Louie Genires, the Greek fruit dealer, was rather disinclined to pay his taxes. He had sold his stock to John Eger and was shipping his fixtures to Chicago Heights, forgetting all about the $9.08 taxes he was charged with. He was making his plans to leave when County Treasurer Allman went after him and he had to come across or have his fixtures attached. He was a wild Greek for a time, but that didn’t bother our treasurer, who has been paying especially close attention to people who try to evade their taxes by running away from them. Don’t pay too high a price for your flour, our White Star is equal to the best and guaranteed to please or your money refunded, only $1.38 a sack.
