CONSIDER WELL THE MARITAL TIE.

Some girls worry their lives out over some fellows not worth two hurrahs in a back yard. Life with such a companion would be one of continual regret. Marrying a man to give him stability, reform him, or brace him up, is one of the exploded fallacies of the age. Better a life of single blessedness a thousand times over. It is playing with a fire that nine cases of ten consumes all happiness, inviting misery and woe. * The world no longer looks askance at the single lady. She is making her way in many ways far preferable to an unhappy connubial condition. l This article may seem strong but a look around on present day conditions will convince one of the evil of hasty or ill considered marital ties. Divorce proceedings of the present day are simply appalling. The causes for seeking separation are numerous but lack of due consideration by the contracting parties of usual fitness for responsibilities of and sancity of the marital state is one of the most prolific causes. Wedding bells too often peal forth a knell, instead of joy, if future results are considered. Some young couples enter the marital state as if it were sknply a picnic excursion instead of a life journey fraught with great responsibilities. Those of us who are older, can see a great change. In former days the marital state was approached with a solemnity and a regard for its sanctity that is in direct contrast to the apparent heedlessness and thoughtlessness and haste of a large number of the marriages of today. Many a girl gets married just for.the sake of being married and thinks no more about it than in the selection of a dress pattern. While the subject is before one, one cannot but help saying that parents often connive and marriages are contracted by couples physically unfit. Look before you leap. Consider well and weigh all conditions thoughtfully—its a matter of life, death and eternity.

IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD NAME.

Integrity is prized by those who lack it as well as by those who have it. There is a certain commercial value in personal character, even though it cannot be purchased with money. Many who are themselves not willing to be bound by the laws of right, have increased confidence in those who are thus bound. A band of robbers would want an honest man for their treasurer. The reputation of unflinching fidelity is a power in the world, even though so few are ready to strive for it. It is in this sense as well as in another that ‘ ‘ a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches. ’ ’ He who is in a position of responsibility before the world needs “clean hands” and “a good report of them that are without.” If a man does not realize this himself, those whom he represents should realize it for him. Those who consent to be represented by one who lacks a good name are themselves not deserving of a good name nor can they long retain one if they have it to begin with.

TROUBLE LIKE THE POOR, EVER WITH US.

When a man has trouble, he gets an idea he is the only one having any. In a great many cases, our troubles don’t amount to a tenth of what some men carry daily and say nothing about it. It’s part of life’s existence, that each shall have a certain amount of trouble. To fret and fume under it, does not tend to lighten it, in fact it only adds to the burden.

We would rather be right than president. So its not a case of sour grapes with us. o Fletcherism, is prolonged chewing of one’s food before swallowing. This reminds us to say that if some families chewed their food as long as they do the “rag” it would not only prove more healthful but promote domestic felicity as well. > o ——- The blackberry pie is looming up very auspiciously on the domestic -horizon and in due time will be located in the vicinity of our diaphragms. o W 7 e understand when the ladies get to running the government there will be no more red tape—they will use pink ribbons. Depend upon it, the best antiseptic for decay is an active interest in human affairs. Those live longest who live most. o Rev. Akcd, of New York, says: lie can get around the world while the truth is pitting on its boots.” £. . ? O : It is said—a friend is he that comes in when all the world goes out. o The fear of the bill collector is the beginning of financial wisdow.
