Bert Rhoades a Tennis Champion At Blue Island.

Bert Rhoades, who was one of this city's best baseball and football players during the years of his young manhood here, has not altogether given up athletics and the following article from a Blue Island- newspaper shows that he is keeping the red and black to the front: A. C. Rhoades and Loren Fletcher were successful in the finals of doubles of the Longwood Tennis Tournament at Morgan Park last Saturday, winning in straight sets from Church and Bradley of Tracy, last year's champions. The scores were 6-4; 6-4; 6-0. Whether or not a medal will be given the winners is unknown. In a short letter Bert says: “I hope Rensselaer will make as good a showing in football this year as they have in baseball; I have been following all of the games in the paper this summer.” ! It will be interesting to Bert’s old friends to know that he is succeeding also as the manager of the telephone company at Blue Island.
