Mrs. Martha Hardesty and Mrs. Nannie Abbott, of Indiana Harbor, who came here a week ago to see their mother, Mrs. Sarah Obenchain, who has been in very bad health, left this morning for their home, their mother being somewhat better. She is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dallas Nichols, in the northwest part of town. * ' 1 The improvement of Front street is to be done by the city paying for the rock and the freight, and allowing the contractors 25 cents a yard to haul them from the railroad and $lO per day for the use of the roller. It is estimated that 150 yards of rock will be used, at a cost of $1.25 per yard. The freight on the five cars will be near SIOO. Porter Mitchell, of Coshockton, 0., was here today closing up a deal by which he becomes the owner of the William Kent ranch of 600 acres, 3 miles east of, Roselawn. The consideration was $40,000, of which SIO,OOO was cash and the balance in trade for city property at Coshockton, 0., and farm land in Kansas. The Kent farm is a part of the Otis ranch aRd is finely improved with buildings and about 300 acres under cultivation. Mr. Mitchell, who' is a merchant at Coshockton, is so favorably impressed with the farm that he may decide to move his store from Coshockton to either Hammond or Gary and make this state and possibly the farm his home.
