ELECTRIC RAILWAY ASKS FOR FRANCHISE THROUGH CITY.
Connell Will Meet Saturday Night To Take Action—either Proceedings. The city council met in regular session Monday evening. A contract was made with W. F. ■ Smith & Co. to re-dress with stone Front street, they to receive above the cost of the stone twenty-five cents per yard for hauling and spreading the •stone and $lO per day for the use of the steam roller. The marshal was instructed to have the contractor fill with stone the approaches to the alleys on Washington street now being improved. A resolution was adopted for opening the alley through block 15. An ordinance providing for the granting of a franchise to the Indiana Northwestern Traction Co. wps introduced, and the matter was pontinued until Saturday -night for further consideration. The company asks for a franchise over one of the followings routes through the city: Beginning at the south end of College avenue to the west end of West Washington street, thence east along Washington to Division, thence north along Division and Main to thte north corporation line •of the city, or from the south end of Van Rensselaer street to Grace street, thence north along Van Rensselaer to Washington street, thence following the former route to the north corporation line. Provided, .however, that tracks, sidetracks, switches, turnouts and turn tables shall be located at such places on said streets as may be designated by the common- council of the city of Rensselaer; provide^,,also, that a double track may be laid on said streets at any time in the future by and with, the consent of the common council of said city. The mayor was authorized to execute certain deeds for lots in Weston cemetery. The members of the fire company present at the Wright alarm were allowed $1 each. "The following election inspectors were appointed: First ward, Judson J. Perkins; second ward, E. L. Clark; third ward, Emerald Aldrich. The following claims were allowed: a —Corporation Fund — W. S.
