JASPER COUNTY BOY LOST LIFE IN NAVY.

Seth Nichols, Grandson of John Nichols, Fell From Ship and Was - Drowned at Key West. r”'John Nichols was notified this Wednesday morning that his grandson, Seth Nichols, who enlisted in the navy "about a year ago, had been drowned at Key West, Fla., having fallen from a United States ship. The letter received by Mr. Nichols was from a young lady at Lafayette with whom Seth had kept company before joining the navy. Mr. Nichols went to Lafayette on the 2 o’clock train to see what further he could learn about the young man’s death. Seth and Ray Nichols were sons of Wallace Nichols, who was crushed to death by- a horse on the Henry Harris farm In 1897. The mother of the boys also died shortly after. Last year both of the boys joined the navy, but it is not thought, that they were together. Seth was about 18 years of age. He was a nephew of Jesse Nichols, superintendent of the county farm. The government’s policy is to send the bodies of deceased sailors and soldiers home for burial and It is probable that this body will be shipped here.
