Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barber, of Litchfield, Mich., who have been visiting Mrs. Isaac Parker and Mrs. Alfred Jacks, went to Chicago today for a short visit before returning to their home. Representative John G. Brown, of Monon, will attend the National .Farmers’ Congress, which meets at Raleigh, North Carolina, on Npvember 4th, as an accredited delegate from this state. Mr. Brown received his appointment from Governor Marshall. Mrs. E. M. Yocam and daughter, of Highland, Kans., and Mrs. E. J. Maxwell, of Fall City, Neb., started for their homes today, after a visit here of about a month. They were called back by the serious sickness of their mother, Mrs. Katie Lee, who is now considerably improved. Some of the saloon men at Cedar Lake have been arrested as well as thpse at Gary, who kept slot machines in their places, and were selling all kinds of drinks on only a government licenses, They will pgve to answer for their misdeeds at the next term of the circuit court. —Crown Point. Star. A M. Robertson, of Morocco, was_in town Tuesday on his way home from Kniman, where he had been to look at a farm with a view to purchasing it. Allen is a fancy poultry breeder and is preparing to take some of bis best to the Chicago poultry show, which will be held early in December. —Mt. Ayr Pilot. Mr. and Mrs. 8. M. Laßue and son, Ray, have returned from their trip to Kansas and Colorado. They left Emmet at Boulder and he expects to derive much benefit from that climate. They saw Mr. and Mrs. Coover at Boulder and alse most of the Rensselaer people at Longmont, which is only 15 miles from Beulder. • * Mrs. L. A. Harmon, who returned the first of the week from Chattsworth, 111., where she had been called by the serious sickness of her mother, returned there again this afternoon. Her mother has suffered a great deal from gall stohes and it has been.decided to operate on her and that will be done next Monday in the hospital at Chattsworth.
