YOUNG MOTHER MAKES VAIN ATTEMPT TO SUICIDE.
Mrs. John Oberly Drinks Carbolic Arid After Quafrri About Care of | Month Old Baby. j ' ‘ Mrs. John Oberly, whose husband works on the section, drank a small quantity of carbolic acid this Monday morning at 5 o’clock, with suicidal intent, but the dose was not very large and the doctor who was summoned thinks the woman will recover and that the differences with her husband will he harmonized and that she will make no further effort to end fier life, although she has declared to neighboring women that she will kill herself before the day is done. Mr. and Mrs. Oberly came here from Chalmers a few months ago, and about a month ago a baby was born to them. The husband works on the Monon section and is an industrious and honest man. They reside in one of C. B. Steward’s properties near the residence of Chas. Morlan. It is stated that the baby has been quite cross, especially at night, *and that their rest has been considerably broken. Thin Monday morning it was crying and the father asked the mother to care for. it. He had been up much during the night and needed some rest before beginning his hard day’s work. She quarreled with him and stepping into an adjoining room swallowed the acid. Neighboring women are caring for her and endeavoring to prevent any recurrence of the rash act. She is only 19 years of age.
