OXFORD QUITTERS CANCEL THE HORSE SHOW GAME.
Use Chilly- Weather As An Excuse To Disband and Write An Eleventh Hour Cancellation. “I told you so.” That is what about every one is saying to Managers George Scott and Lou Harmon of the Wrens baseball team. The remark follows the cancellation by Oxford of their Thursday .horse show date, which was received Tuesday. “The weather is too bad and our team has decided to disband” is the exouse of the Oxford manager, who seems to be a real nice fellow himself, but is apparently . influenced by a bunch of the Mongolian boxers who have been responsible for the rowdyism that has been so manifest at both df the Oxford games. Fans who attended the contest here will agree that it was played on its merits with not a suggestion of unfairness and never a ripple of discontent except that instituted by one “Hez” Miller, who started one of his grand stand bluffs from the Oxford players’ bench and was promptly told to keep his disturbing tongue in his mouth or suffer the consequences. Miller took the hint and there was never a criticism on the part of Oxford players, mananor spectators. That is varying a trifle from the subject matter of this article, but is published as an assurance that Oxford could have no possible excuse for not fulfilling their engagement which had been largely advertised and which was certain to draw a large crowd. Oxford baseball stock, which from the standpoint of fairness and sportsmanship has been in doubt ever since their notorious atempt to disregard their ground rules and' steal a game on their own grounds and which was further placed in question by their attitude at the last game played there, when they resorted to every means of contemptible practice to mar the fairness of the game, is now at the very dregs of the market, and not only the cancellation of the game but the late ho; r at which it was canceled, shows them to be a bunch of quitters, unworthy our attention, and the management would be thoroughly justified in breaking off all further athletic relations with that town. The action was not altogether a surprise, however, as such conduct might be expected from a set of highbinders of the M iler type, and the management was prepared for just such an emergency and have secured Medary--ville for the game. Medaryville has been playing great ball and should be able to put up a good contest. They will appear Thursday afternoon and good crowd should turn out. On Friday Brook will play. McGurran will probably pitch Thursday and Hanks Friday.
