Believes It Pays To Raise The Very Best Poultry.

Arthur Mayhew, who lives five miles southwest of Rensselaer, is convinced that it pays to raise the best poultry and to give it some attention instead of raising mixed breeds or of allowing the breeds to run back by careless crossing. He is devoted to White Wyandottes, which he began raising last year and he had placed in his pens some of the best stock in the country, with the result that he expects to have the best birds of that variety that were ever raised in the county. At the poultry show last year he had a creditable exhibit, and won six prizes, 1 first, 2 seconds, 1 third and 2 specials. He will exhibit at the forthcoming poultry show and expects to have a number of higher scoring birds than he had last year. Among his this year raising were 75 or 80 fine cockerels, which cost no more to raise than the common breeds but are worth many times as much and should find a ready sale to breeders looking for the best. White Wyandottes, by the way, are a fine all around chicken, and are claimed by many to be the best table fowl raised.
