Adam Wanted the Papers To Keep Mum About Him.
Adam D. Scott, the Monon widower whose indiscretions caused him to be lodged in jail a few hours Monday night, would so much like to have it kept quiet, and he wrote a letter to Marshal Parks asking him to keep it out of the papers, for the “poor woman’s” sake. Of course, Adam don’t give a rap for himself, but he don’t want to be responsible for causing any trouble to Mrs. Smith. This thoughtful consideration of her welfare has evidently come about since he frightened her half to death. Undoubtedly it is not for her that he wants it kept mum, but Adam wants to keep his Monon acquaintances from learning what a fool he made of himself. Here is his letter absent the blunders jn spelling, etc.: “I wish you would go to both tee papers and ask them not to publish anything about that little affair Monday night, as it will only make things look bad and maybe make that poor woman worse. Do this for her sake and not for mine; tell them it is. all for respect for the lady.”
