FINED ON ONE CHARGE; ACQUITTED ON THE OTHER.

John W. Poole, of Benton County, Fined SSO For Assault, and Jury Releases Him on Other Charge.

The jury that tried John W. Poole, of Benton county, for assault on the person of Mary Fate, agreed that a fine of SSO would be about the proper thing and this was rendered as a verdict. The same jury was then agreed upon to try the charge of assault upon the person of Mrs. Haynes, the judge having decided to modify the charge found by the grand jury. On this charge Poole was found “not guilty.” The defendant got off plenty easy enough, according to those who attended the trial and it should serve him a lesson and when he comes over into Jasper county hereafter he should keep his place and maintain a better regard for respectability than he has on past occasions.
