Looks Promising For An Oxford Special Next Sunday.
Agent Beam reported that the General Passenger Agent of the Monoif had learned from the C. & E. I. railroad that would not run an excursion Sunday via Fair Oaks, unless 150 passengers were guaranteed at a rate based on dead-heading the train from Danville to Fair Oaks and back again, which would make the rate prohibitive. The matter was thep, taken up with Traveling Passenger Agent Priest, and the train can be run via Lafayette and the Lake Erie. The rate will be $1.50 for the round trip.
Oxford almost kicked over the traces this morning. They telephoned Managers Scott and Harmon that they objected to Ernie Gragg as the umpire. Mr. Gragg is the Jowell man who umpired la#l Sunday and whose fair and wholly impartial decisions were alike approved by the home people and players and by the visitors, and who was readily agreed upon as the official for next Sunday’s game. The Oxford people suggested various other umpires that did not appear to have the impartial qualities of Gragg, and finally Oxford was informed that unless they would stay by their agreement to have Gragg the game would be called off. Oxford then agreed and the game is now to take place according to original arrangements.
