Commissioners’ Report Filed Monday In Marble Petition.

The commissioners appointed in the Marble petition for straightening the Kapkakee river was filed Monday. It is a long and tedfous Teport but the most important features are set forth in the following paragraphs. The total acreage Assessed is about 150,000 acres. The estimated cost of construction is $270,000, the estimate being based at 6% cents per yard, but it is believed by many that the ditch would sell at 5 cents per yard which would -reduce the construction cost about one-fifth, and in that proportion reduce the assessments, which are made at figures varying from 40 cents to $5.75 per acre. The proposed ditch begins at the Chicago and Eastern Illinois bridge and extends to the Monon bridge at Water Valley, and would be 22 miles long, whereas the river is now 66 miles in lehgth.'
