MT. AYR AND FORESMAN DIVIDE HONORS SATURDAY.
Former Won the Horse Race 1 and the Latter the Soft Ball Game at the Stock Farm. A good sized crowd gathered at the stock farm Saturday afternoon to see the horse. race between Ed Harris’ sorrel gelding and John Sunderland’s bay mare. The former' is from Mt. Ayr and the latter from Foresman and there has been considerable rivalry for some time between the two owners, and this race was to settle the dispute. Harris won in two straight half mile heats, Mr. Sunderland failing to keep his horse at its gait a good part of the time. He has a very nice moving little animal if it were not for the breaking. The first heat was made in 1:33 and the second in I:23ft. •' Foresman then defeated Mt. Ayr at a game of soft ball, the score being 24 to 14. The Foresman ohaps all wore white duck pants and blue satine shirts and white caps and their tidy appearance seemed to frighten their unorganized adversaries. ■ • The manner in which the public ,turned out and seemed to enjoy the race indicates that Rensselaer might again enter into the county fair business and draw a large business. .; fC-j i'-' »vZ. j, v.* •Mi i.i
