Former Corn King Says 1909 Crop Will Be Short.

George Phillips, one-time corn king, says of corn: ‘‘The situation, as I see it, is extremely bullish and the crop " of only 2,500,000,000 bushels is the smallest in many years, per capita. Ohio, Indinan and Illinois will have a very large crop. In some particular sections phenomenal yields will be had, and in these states farmers may Bell a good deal of corn early.” Phillip’s figures are 100,000,000 bushels less than the government estimate of this month. The 26,000-ton battle ship to be built by the New York ship building company will be 3 kpown as the Arkansas and that by William Cramp Sons & Co. as the Wyoming. The contracts for these ships were let several days ago. As a result of the meeting of the county councils ovfer Indiana, last week, Wabash county claims the lowest tax rate in Indiana. The county rate is but 25 cents on the SIOO valuation. Wabash county has no debts, has splendid public buildings, the only Memorial hall in Indiana dedicated to the G. A. R. post.
