WRENS WERE RAGGED AND BROOK VICTORIOUS.

Birds Did Not Pot Up As Snappy a Game As Heretofore and Lose By 5 to 3 Score. The Wrens got stage-fright Sunday at Brook and pulled the short end of a 5 to 3 score in a loosely played game. Neither team earned a run, for errors were partly responsible for the scores in every instance. The box honors were about’ evenly distributed as far as hits were concerned, each team securing five. Two of the Wren’s hits were two-baggers by Hanks. However, Whiting passed two men and hit three while Hanks issued no passes and hit one man. When it came to fielding, though, the Wrens were out-classed for fair. They certainly had an ofT day for the error column shows a total of twelve errors charged up to them, while Brook made but three. Neither side could score in the first inning, although both got the first man up as far as second with none out. In the second Brook counted once after two had been retired — Parcells to Swartzell. C. Conn, third up, hit safely to center and went to second when Parks let the ball bound out into the field. Parcells then missed a hard chance when Light lammed a hard one his way, and C. Conn scored and Light went to second and stole third. Whiting fanned. The Wrens could do nothing in the third period, but the Brookites were right there again and scored twice. Crisler, first up, was out, Hanks to Swartzell, but J. Lyons was safe when Hanks threjv wild to Swartzell. Hartman erred and let T. Conn on second and Crisler on third. Wickwire then hit a hard fly to Wilcox and Crisler scored before he returned the ball, and T. Conn scored when McLain fumbled Wilcox’s throw v The Wrens came near scoring in the fourth. Hartman was safe on first’s error,, and went to third on Hanks’ two bagger to left. McLain and Parks both struck out then and Swartzell went out, Light to T. Conn. No scoring was done then until the sixth when the Wrens got two. Hartman went out, Crisler to T. Conn, but Hanks hit to center for two bases and went to third on a wild pitch. McLain was passed apd stole second. Parks then singled to left and scored Hanks while McLain got to third. Parks went down to second on the next one and Dad Swartzell laid down a beautiful sacrifice to second and scored McLain. Kepner went out, Light to T. Conn. The score then stood 3 to 2, and the game looked better. It was spoiled again in the next inning, however, by Kevin. Two men were out when J. Lyon singled to left and T. Conn put a safe one to the same place. .Lyons tried to make third and was called safe on a close decision. Kevin became enraged and exchanged places with Kepner in left and when Wickwire knocked an easy fly muffed it and let in two runs. The Wrens got one the next inning. Hanks, first up, was hit in the ribs, stole second and tQok third when Lyons muffed the catcher’s throw, and went home while two or three Brookites were doing the 'Alphonse and Gaston stunt as to which one should pick up the ball. Brook came near scoring again in the eighth with a man on second and third and one out. Hanks fanned Whiting, next up, however, and Parks made a sensational catch of Crlsler’s short fly behind second saved further complications. The Wrens could do nothing in the ninth and the

score stood 5 to 3 with Brook victorious.
