Bumper Corn Crop Seems Sure For Jasper County.
J. J. Lawler was in the city yesterday and visited his farm west of town. He states that he thinks Jasper county will have the greatest crop of corn in its history. This opinion is held by practically every farmer with whom we have talked. The better drainage afforded by the lowered channel of the Iroquois has greatly benefited all territory adjacent to that stream and throughout the county the weather conditions seem to have been almost ideal for the king crop. The same condition exists, to be sure, throughout the central west, but the east has suffered greatly from drouth. Mr. Lawler states that many eastern buyers of cattle, in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and other states, who in previous years have bought cattle during June and July have made no purchases this year, and it seems certain that there will be a small crop in most of those states. There is every indication that the prices for corn will continue high and fanners will have a continued prosperity.
